Why?
there’s a document on my laptop called “almost.”
it’s mostly fragments. sentences that stop halfway through because i figured out what i was trying to say too late.
i don’t throw them out.
in the studio, things don’t really get thrown out either. they just get pushed to the side. a rim that went uneven. something that looked better before it dried. you think you’ll fix it next time you sit down.
sometimes you do. sometimes you just start something else.
there’s a kind of honesty in that, i think. in letting things be a little off. in not forcing them into something cleaner than they are.
i come back to it because it’s one of the only ways i know how to pay attention to my own life.
most of this lives somewhere in between: before it’s finished, after it’s started, not really trying to be resolved yet.
that’s why.
